Susan Boyle Tops UK Album Sale For 2009

January 5th, 2010

2009 has been a great year for two of my favorite pop singers, Susan Boyle and Lady Gaga! Yes, they may seem miles apart in terms of style, but their music rocks all the same.

Reports from Billboard state that Susan Boyle’s debut album “I Dreamed A Dream” (Syco/Sony Music Entertainment) needed just six weeks on sale to overtake Lady Gaga’s “The Fame” (Interscope/Universal) and score the biggest U.K. album sale of 2009.

According to the Official Charts Company, “Dream” has sold more than 1.5 million copies since it was released Nov. 23 – enough to edge out Gaga, whose “The Fame” spent 34 weeks in the top 10 last year and made No. 2 overall for 2009. However, Gaga’s “Poker Face” did top the aggregate 2009 singles chart, while “Just Dance” made No. 3 behind Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling” (Interscope/Universal).

The U.K.’s first sales charts of 2010 also had Lady Gaga at the top, climbing back 3-1 to lead the singles survey for a second time with “Bad Romance” (Interscope/Universal), while heavy retail discounting of Paolo Nutini’s sophomore set “Sunny Side Up” (Atlantic/Warner Music) sent it soaring back to the top of the album chart, 15-1.

You’re right, little Susan Boyle has rocked the world with her glorious, clear voice.
It’s so refreshing to be able to understand the words to a song instead of tolerating a lot of screaming and gimmicks to hide the fact that the singer can’t sing at all!
Good for her. I hope she’ll keep singing for a very long time.
